  • Binds to bile acids in the intestine, preventing their reabsorption and promoting their excretion in feces
Use:
  • Lowering cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia
  • Relieving pruritus associated with partial biliary obstruction

Contraindications:
  • Complete biliary obstruction
  • History of bowel obstruction
  • Phenylketonuria (some formulations contain aspartame)
