Mechanism of Action:
  • Binds to and activates the calcium-sensing receptor on the parathyroid gland, leading to a decrease in parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion
  • Reduces serum calcium and phosphorus levels by decreasing PTH secretion
Use:
  • Treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis
  • Treatment of hypercalcemia in patients with parathyroid carcinoma or primary hyperparathyroidism
Side Effects:
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Hypotension
  • Hypocalcemia
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to cinacalcet
  • Hypocalcemia
  • Severe hepatic impairment
