Mechanism of Action:
  • Inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV
Use:
  • Treatment of bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and gastrointestinal infections
  • Prophylaxis of anthrax
Side Effects:
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Photosensitivity
  • Tendon rupture
  • QT prolongation
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Children under 18 years of age
