Mechanism of Action:
  • Inhibits the reuptake of serotonin at the presynaptic membrane, increasing serotonin levels in the synaptic cleft
Use:
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to citalopram or any component of the formulation
  • Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing MAOIs
  • Use in patients with congenital long QT syndrome
  • Use in patients taking medications that prolong the QT interval
