Drug Name:Diclofenac
Drug Class:Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
Mechanism of Action:
  • Inhibits the production of prostaglandins by blocking the action of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes
  • Reduces inflammation, pain, and fever
Use:
  • Relief of pain and inflammation in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis
  • Relief of acute pain, such as dental pain, menstrual cramps, and postoperative pain
Side Effects:
  • Gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain
  • Increased risk of bleeding
  • Headache, dizziness, and drowsiness
  • Skin rash and itching
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to diclofenac or other NSAIDs
  • History of asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Active peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Severe heart failure, renal failure, or hepatic failure
