  • Inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis by intercalating into DNA strands
  • Generates free radicals that damage DNA and cell membranes
Use:
  • Treats various types of cancer, including breast, lung, ovarian, and bladder cancer
  • Used in combination with other chemotherapy drugs
Side Effects:
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Hair loss
  • Mouth sores
  • Decreased blood cell counts
  • Cardiotoxicity
Contraindications:
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Severe liver or kidney disease
  • Previous treatment with maximum cumulative dose of doxorubicin
