Drug Class:Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor
Mechanism of Action:
  • Inhibits the enzyme COMT, which breaks down dopamine in the brain
  • Increases the availability of dopamine in the brain
Use:
  • Used in combination with levodopa/carbidopa to treat Parkinson's disease
  • Helps to reduce the wearing-off effect of levodopa
Side Effects:
  • Nausea

  • Orthostatic hypotension
