Mechanism of Action:
  • Inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzymes, leading to accumulation of fungal ergosterol and inhibition of cell membrane synthesis
Use:
  • Treatment of systemic and superficial fungal infections
  • Prophylaxis of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients
Side Effects:
  • Nausea

  • Hepatotoxicity
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to fluconazole or other azole antifungals
  • Concomitant use of terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, or erythromycin
