Mechanism of Action:
  • Competitive antagonist of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors
  • Inhibits the action of acetylcholine on smooth muscle, secretory glands, and the CNS
Use:
  • Preoperative medication to reduce salivary, tracheobronchial, and pharyngeal secretions
  • Treatment of peptic ulcer disease
  • Management of bradycardia
  • Adjunctive therapy in the treatment of Parkinson's disease
  • Treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
Side Effects:
  • Dry mouth
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Urinary retention
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to glycopyrrolate or other anticholinergics
  • Glaucoma
  • Obstructive uropathy
  • Obstructive gastrointestinal disease
  • Myasthenia gravis
