Drug Class:Thiazide-like diuretic
Mechanism of Action:
  • Inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys
  • Increases excretion of sodium, chloride, and water
  • Reduces blood volume and lowers blood pressure
Use:
  • Treatment of hypertension
  • Edema associated with heart failure
  • Edema associated with renal dysfunction
  • Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus
Side Effects:
  • Hypokalemia
  • Hyponatremia
  • Hypomagnesemia
  • Hyperuricemia
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Orthostatic hypotension
  • Photosensitivity
  • Skin rash
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to indapamide or sulfonamide-derived drugs
  • Severe renal impairment
  • Hepatic encephalopathy
  • Hypokalemia
  • Hyponatremia
  • Severe hypotension
