Drug Class:Cardiovascular agent
Mechanism of Action:
  • Inhibits the If current in the sinoatrial node, reducing heart rate without affecting contractility or conduction
  • Reduces myocardial oxygen demand
Use:
  • Treatment of stable angina pectoris in patients with normal sinus rhythm who have a contraindication or intolerance to beta-blockers
  • Treatment of chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction in patients with sinus rhythm and a heart rate of 70 bpm or higher
Side Effects:
  • Bradycardia
  • Phosphenes (visual disturbances)
  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Hypotension
  • Headache
Contraindications:
  • Acute myocardial infarction
  • Sick sinus syndrome
  • Severe hypotension
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Concomitant use of strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
