Drug Name:Meloxicam
Drug Class:Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
Mechanism of Action:Inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are responsible for inflammation, pain, and fever
Use:
  • Relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders in dogs and cats
  • Post-operative pain relief in dogs and cats
Side Effects:
  • Gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite)
  • Renal toxicity (increased thirst and urination, decreased urine production)
  • Hepatic toxicity (jaundice, lethargy, vomiting)
  • Bleeding disorders (bruising, nosebleeds)
Contraindications:
  • Do not use in animals with a history of hypersensitivity to meloxicam or other NSAIDs
  • Do not use in animals with bleeding disorders or gastrointestinal ulcers
  • Use with caution in animals with renal or hepatic impairment
