Mechanism of Action:
  • Binds to prostaglandin E1 receptors in the stomach and intestines
  • Increases mucus and bicarbonate secretion
  • Decreases acid secretion
  • Stimulates uterine contractions
Use:
  • Prevention and treatment of gastric ulcers caused by NSAIDs
  • Induction of labor
  • Termination of pregnancy

Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to misoprostol or prostaglandins
