Mechanism of Action:
  • Inhibits the activity of monoamine oxidase enzyme, which increases the levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the brain.
Use:
  • Treatment of depression
  • Treatment of anxiety disorders
  • Treatment of panic disorder
Side Effects:
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Weight gain
  • Hypertensive crisis (when taken with certain foods or medications that contain tyramine)
Contraindications:
  • Do not take with other MAOIs
  • Do not take with foods or medications that contain tyramine
  • Do not take with stimulants or sympathomimetic drugs
