Drug Name:Sacubitril
Drug Class:Neprilysin inhibitor
Mechanism of Action:Inhibits neprilysin, an enzyme responsible for the degradation of natriuretic peptides, leading to increased levels of natriuretic peptides which promote vasodilation and diuresis
Use:
  • Treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF)
  • Reduces the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure
Side Effects:
  • Hypotension
  • Hyperkalemia
  • Angioedema
  • Renal impairment
  • Cough
Contraindications:
  • History of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor or ARB use
  • Concomitant use with ACE inhibitors
  • Concomitant use with aliskiren in patients with diabetes
