Mechanism of Action:
  • Binds to estrogen receptors and blocks estrogen from binding to them
  • May also activate some estrogen receptors in certain tissues
Use:
  • Treatment of breast cancer
  • Prevention of breast cancer in high-risk patients
  • Reduction of breast cancer recurrence
Side Effects:
  • Hot flashes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Increased risk of blood clots and stroke
  • Increased risk of endometrial cancer
Contraindications:
  • Pregnancy
  • History of blood clots or stroke
  • History of endometrial cancer
