Mechanism of Action:
  • Selective antagonist of alpha-1A and alpha-1D adrenergic receptors in the prostate, bladder neck, and urethra
  • Relaxes smooth muscle in these areas, improving urine flow and reducing symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Use:
  • Treatment of BPH
  • Improvement of urine flow
  • Reduction of urinary symptoms such as hesitancy, urgency, and frequency
Side Effects:
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Orthostatic hypotension
  • Retrograde ejaculation
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to tamsulosin or other alpha-blockers
  • Severe liver or kidney disease
  • Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
