Drug Name:Zolmitriptan
Drug Class:Selective serotonin receptor agonist
Mechanism of Action:
  • Binds to serotonin receptors in the brain, causing vasoconstriction of dilated blood vessels and reducing inflammation
  • Inhibits the release of neuropeptides that cause pain and inflammation
Use:
  • Acute treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura
  • Not recommended for prophylaxis or for the management of hemiplegic or basilar migraines

  • Somnolence
  • Paresthesia
  • Dry mouth
Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to zolmitriptan or any component of the formulation
  • Ischemic heart disease
  • Uncontrolled hypertension
  • History of stroke or transient ischemic attack
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Severe hepatic impairment
