Mechanism of Action:
  • inhibits factor Xa
  • prevents the formation of blood clots
Use:
  • prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
  • treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)
  • prevention of DVT in patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery
Side Effects:
  • bleeding
  • nausea
  • headache
  • fatigue
  • dizziness
Contraindications:
  • active bleeding
  • severe liver or kidney disease
  • hypersensitivity to rivaroxaban
